What does trauma-informed coaching mean? It means that as a coach, you are aware of trauma and its effects on your client's life. You also have the insight to understand how trauma can affect your approach to your client's work.
People who experience trauma often feel powerless or vulnerable, which means that trauma survivors may be triggered easily by the smallest things. When trauma survivors are triggered they often need to re-establish control to feel safe again, especially with something as personal as talking about themselves with another person or in a group dynamic.
When coaches (or other group members) make certain statements, share their personal stories, their current or past experiences, or ask certain questions they can unintentionally trigger a client. For example, "you can" statements can feel like pressure and can create a trauma response in someone that was constantly pushed by well-meaning caregivers to be their best.
As a coach, you are there to provide the tools, support, and encouragement needed for the client to move through trauma-related blocks so that change can happen. However, trauma is complex and it doesn't always respond to "fix-it" approaches. Effective coaches use trauma-informed skills in order to work with trauma survivors effectively because one approach does not fit all trauma survivors.
That's why I created this Trauma Informed Coaching Certification Program. Learning the tools, practicing them, and learning what works well can take years, but I have created an 8 week course that will help you understand what trauma is, the impact it has on our lives, strategies to help your clients in both 1:1 and group settings, and strategies to help you stay grounded while you support your clients through their transformational journey.
January 12 - March 2
Wednesdays at 4:oo pm - 5:15 pm PST (75 minutes)
All classes will be live via Zoom, recorded, and available for replay online. Some classes will be more informative to provide a solid foundation, other classes will be interactive with a chance for practicing the strategies.
